Inquiry into Dignity and Respect - Consultation

Purpose

1. The Committee agreed to undertake an inquiry into dignity and respect, to review the progress made in this area, ensure the conversation continues and consider whether further steps could be taken.

2. The consultation ran from 16 November 2023 to 22 January 2024. There were 8 responses which can be found at Annex A, and this paper gives a brief overview of those responses.

Responses

3. Responses came from two political groups – Welsh Labour and Plaid Cymru – and two unions representing support staff – PCS Plaid Cymru branch and Unite Senedd branch. FDA Wales also responded as a union representing civil servants and senior professionals working for the Senedd, Welsh Government and Welsh Government sponsored bodies. The other respondents were the Scottish Ethical Standards Commissioner, Race Council Cymru and the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Decision

4. Members are asked to consider the responses and any potential themes coming from them. These themes can then feed into lines of questioning with the witnesses.
